active island programming
A healthy island is an…Â active island
Healthy Island Project works to create an environment in which people of all ages tend to and enhance their physical health and well-being through safe and expert-led programming.
Our programs include the following:
Bike Safety
We regularly hold bike safety sessions for K-5 students at Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School and sponsor the annual Bike Rodeo for kids of any age on the last Saturday in May. The event encourages safety through a riding lesson, bike tune up, helmet giveaway, and a fun obstacle course.Â
Deer Isle Trail Partnership
Open from dawn to dusk, this half-mile trail is great for all ages. The wooded trail is located behind the Deer Isle Little League field. The trail is still being developed in partnership with the Town of Deer Isle and AARP Maine.
Wellness Warriors
This 12-week online nutrition coaching program includes ways to practice healthy habits, weekly check-ins, and social support to achieve sustainable weight loss. Daily lessons are taught by Dr. Hollan Oliver. The program also includes access to fitness instruction, including Zumba with Kelley Tardif & Miranda Clough, Yoga with Caroline Wybar, Expansive Movement with Kyra Alex, and Personal Training with Carmen Rollins.Â
Space is limited! To sign up, please call HIP at (207) 200-9659 or send an email using the link below. The program is valued at $35/week. A minimum donation of $50 is required to participate.
